Free Consulting CV ATS Checker | Instant Score for McKinsey, BCG, Bain

5 min readFebruary 2026

Before your CV reaches a McKinsey, BCG, or Bain recruiter, it must survive an automated screening system. Most candidates never check this — and most candidates never get a response.

Our free consulting CV ATS checker is built specifically for consulting applications. Unlike generic resume scanners, it evaluates your CV against the criteria that matter to top consulting firms: impact quantification, consulting vocabulary, ATS-safe formatting, and structural completeness.

Get your score in 30 seconds. See exactly what's blocking you. Fix it before you apply.

🎯

Why ATS Checking Matters Before Applying to Consulting

  • 75% of CVs are rejected by ATS before any human reads them at top consulting firms
  • McKinsey, BCG, Bain and all major firms receive 200,000+ applications per year — automated screening is unavoidable
  • A CV that passes ATS at a tech company can fail a consulting ATS — different vocabulary, different scoring criteria
  • You have one shot per firm per application cycle — there is no resubmit if your CV gets filtered out

The problem is you usually never find out why you didn't hear back. ATS rejection leaves no trace — your application simply disappears. Checking your CV beforehand is the only way to prevent this.

What Makes Our Consulting ATS Checker Different

Most resume checkers (Jobscan, Resume Worded, etc.) are built for corporate jobs. They check generic keywords against job descriptions. Consulting is different — and our tool reflects that.

What We Check That Others Don't

  • Consulting vocabulary scoring — not generic job keywords, but actual consulting terminology (hypothesis-driven, stakeholder management, synthesis, etc.)
  • Impact quantification density — what % of your bullets have specific numbers? Consulting firms expect 70–90%.
  • Firm-specific criteria — McKinsey scores differently from BCG which scores differently from Bain. We adjust for each.
  • ATS formatting compatibility — does your document parse correctly? Tables, columns, and graphics fail silently.
  • Action verb quality — the difference between 'Led' and 'Responsible for' is huge in consulting ATS scoring.

How to Interpret Your ATS Score

Our quick scan returns one of four score tiers. Here is what each means and what to do next:

Score Tiers Explained

  • Score 90 — Passes general screening: Your CV meets general consulting standards. The quick scan covers the basics, but consulting firms apply additional content and keyword criteria. The full report checks all 47 of our targeted criteria.
  • Score 60 — Below competitive threshold: Your CV meets a basic bar but is not competitive. CVs at this score range are frequently filtered out before a human reviewer sees them. The full report shows exactly which sections need work.
  • Score 30 — Critical issues: Multiple significant problems that are likely to cause rejection. Fixable, but you need the exact list. The full report gives you a prioritised fix plan.
  • Score 0 — ATS compatibility issues: Your CV has serious formatting issues that may prevent ATS systems from reading it correctly. Even excellent content may be invisible. Format should be rebuilt before anything else.

The quick (free) scan gives you your tier and a key finding. The full report (€5) gives you every issue across all 47 criteria, your exact score, a section-by-section breakdown, the keywords you're missing, and a PDF you can use to track your improvements.

The 7 Most Common ATS Failures We Catch

  • Two-column layout — ATS reads columns in random order. Your content becomes garbled. Affects 35% of CVs we scan.
  • Weak opening verbs — 'Assisted', 'Helped', 'Participated in' score close to zero in consulting ATS. You need ownership verbs.
  • Bullets with no numbers — If more than 30% of your bullets lack quantification, you will fail consulting ATS scoring.
  • Missing consulting vocabulary — Generic corporate language ('improved performance', 'led initiatives') without specific consulting terms.
  • Text in headers/footers — Contact details in the footer are often completely missed by ATS parsers.
  • Inconsistent date formatting — MM/YYYY vs YYYY vs Month Year in the same CV confuses parsing engines.
  • No Education section or wrong order — For pre-MBA, Education should come before Experience. Wrong order is flagged.

Content Fixes (1–2 hours)

  • Replace every passive verb ('responsible for', 'helped') with an ownership verb ('Led', 'Drove', 'Delivered')
